Summer Season 2012

flights-of-fancy-graphicWe enjoyed a wonderful response from audiences to the 2011 Summer Season, during which our very popular and much admired production of My Fair Lady eclipsed the performance of Whisky Galore – A Musical! in 2009 to become the best-selling show in PFT’s 60 year history! With these two - and 2010’s Kiss Me, Kate - proving so popular with our audiences, you won’t be surprised to learn that we launch the 2012 Season with another all-singing, all-dancing musical comedy: the 1950s inspired, sci-fi spoof, Little Shop Of Horrors!

The 2012 Summer Season celebrates the extraordinary flights of creative fancy that are the distinguishing feature of certain plays – so you’ll have no option but to let your imaginations soar as we present the Scottish premiére production of Patrick Barlow’s The 39 Steps. This Olivier Award-winning West End comedy caper, recreating all the thrills and spills of the classic Hitchcock movie, promises to be one of the most astonishing theatrical spectacles ever seen at PFT!

Then there’s Patrick Hamilton’s Rope, a psychological thriller with an ingenious and unrivalled twist. This chilling depiction of an apparently motiveless murder is a masterclass in suspense, which stretches the audience’s nerves - like a rope - to breaking point . . .

Ayckbourn’s comic genius and sparkling imagination make a welcome return in his award-winning, time-travelling comedy thriller Communicating Doors. One of Ayckbourn’s most popular works, this razor-sharp comedy about a hotel suite with a built in time warp is a modern classic. Not to be missed!

Scottish playwright J. M. Barrie’s enchanting and touching fantasy, Dear Brutus, is full of the author’s characteristic wit, imagination and compassion. Let us transport you back to 1917 . . . and join us in a stylish, magical and life-changing Midsummer’s Eve journey into the woods . . .

And finally, as we move into Autumn, we introduce our new PFT Classic slot with a revival of one of the best-selling plays of all time at PFT, the sparkling Arsenic And Old Lace. Part farce, part genuine thriller, this brilliant black comedy will make a perfect afternoon or evening’s entertainment!

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
