| Joss Ackland to be Guest of Honour at Gala Performance |
|
Joss Ackland is one of Britain's best known and best loved actors...
A member of the acting company in Pitlochry Festival Theatre's very first season back in 1951, it was at PFT he met his wife-to-be, Rosemary Kirkcaldy. A powerful, long-lasting and loving relationship ensued which began, quite literally, on the stage of the Theatre in the Tent - as Rosemary was also an actress in that very first Summer Season!
Sixty years later, the Theatre in the Hills is delighted to welcome Joss back to Pitlochry for a Gala Performance of this season's flagship production, My Fair Lady, as part of the theatre's 60th Anniversary celebrations, on Saturday 18th June, 2011.
Joss Ackland has appeared in more than 170 film and television productions and countless pieces of theatre during his lengthy career, during which time his stage and screen partners have included such international stars as Jean Simmons, Claire Bloom, Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall.
With some of the other surviving members of the 1951 company also planning to attend, together with a number of special guests, only a limited number of tickets remain available for what is sure to be a wholly memorable evening. Beginning with a drinks reception, a series of short speeches from the stage and the cutting of a very special Anniversary cake, before moving onto the performance itself, and concluding with the chance to mingle with the cast from My Fair Lady afterwards, tickets for the Gala are priced at just £40 - inclusive of food and refreshments! "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
