Mark Holden

MARK HOLDEN was born in Glasgow, whilst at school he developed his drawing and painting techniques and after leaving Edinburgh University he began a career in Sales & Marketing. After a period of illness a few years ago Mark began to rediscover his interest in painting once again and he has now established himself as a full time artist. Mark has successfully sold work through a number of galleries in Scotland and has undertaken commissions to clients requirements. Artists who have inspired him include Peploe, Monet, John Lowrie Morrison to name a few. Mark uses colour and texture in his paintings to portray his compositions. Based in Kilconquhar, Fife he has the perfect access to several of his favourite subjects like St Andrews & Elie of which he tries to capture in all their variety. His work has been exhibited at the Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy Art Gallery & Museum, Jerdan Gallery in Crail and at the Eduardo Allessandro Gallery in Broughty Ferry amongst many others. He received a Judges commendation from Shell Expo at Kirkcaldy Exhibition in 2003 and has undertaken commissions for several private clents with many paintings now residing abroad. His work has also been donated to leading Charities including Scottish International Relief and “Maggies” Kirkcaldy Hospice Project. Mark had a successful solo exhibition in our River Room in 2006 and we are delighted to welcome him back each year to the Gallery.

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
