KIRSTIE COLAM D.A. graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1952 after specialising in Dress Design & embroidery. She worked in Wardrobe Departments of several Scottish Theatres before joining BBC Scotland in Glasgow as Wardrobe Supervisor. In 1977 she left the BBC having become Senior Costume Designer to return to Edinburgh and begin freelance work in TV & Theatre. At this time Kirstie began to show embroidery in group exhibitions all over Scotland. In 1988 she joined Queen Margaret College as visiting Lecturer in the Drama Department, juggling this with freelance work and helping in an Antique shop. In 1992 Kirstie started to work as Sales Agent for RSA, RSW and other art exhibitions. In 2004 She finally retired and in theory should have more time to devote to embroidery, but as she says “it doesn’t always work out that way."

"When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
