Garden News - May
Summer is coming...

There is a lovely sense of purpose in the Explorers as growth gathers momentum, parent birds are in and out of the many nest boxes feeding their young, and the garden volunteers are kept busy maintaining the many areas of the garden.

After the brown hues of the latter winter months, throughout the garden Meconopsis, Primula, Rhododendrons and many other species burst forth in a symphony of beauty. Now is the time to visit Explorers for a feast of colour and a time when you can glean ideas for your own gardens.

Many of the plants and flowers that you see in the garden are on sale either at the front door of Pitlochry Festival Theatre or up at the garden entrance.
There is a wide range available.

Throughout the summer months guided tours of Explorers are on offer every Wednesday and Sunday at 11.30am. You can learn about the conception and history of the garden, and the exciting and often dangerous life of the plant hunters and botanists to whom the garden is dedicated.

In the middle of May we welcomed Corey Lacey to the Explorers for work experience. Corey attends Arkansas University where he is studying soil science.

Plant Hunters

Hunters History

The Plant Hunters were not just botanists, they were adventurers and explorers. They had to be tough to survive the conditions they faced in far-flung corners of the world. They survived shipwrecks, sieges and slavery and battled with pirates, escaped convicts and hostile natives.
